This post will give you helpful tips to keep yourself healthy and safe during your move.  And we know it will help you get to your new home in good spirits!

Tips For Moving Safely During COVID-19 Outbreak

TIP 1: Talk To Your Movers

Please contact our office, or the movers you have chosen to establish clear communication with the people who will be helping you.  Make sure you know if anyone they know has fallen ill with COVID-19.

These are some of the questions you can ask:

  • Have you had any symptoms in the past several weeks?
  • Has anyone you know fallen ill?
  • What health and safety precautions are you planning to take during the move?

If you keep communication open and ask the right questions, you should be in safe hands during your move.

TIP 2: Keep Belongings Sanitized

When you’re moving and people are touching your belongings, it’s important to keep them as sanitized as possible.  Whether you are moving locally or long distance, pack items carefully and make sure the seal them in boxes and bags.

When you arrive at your new home, clean each box prior to bringing it into your house.  If you must leave things in the garage then do so as your priority is keeping yourself safe.

Other tips for keeping your belongings sanitized:

  • Wrap furniture in plastic (dispose of plastic once at your new residence)
  • Seal belongings in bags and boxes (dispose of the bags and boxes once arrived at your residence)
  • Wear gloves and face masks when unpacking
  • Wash hands frequently
  • Wear gloves and face masks
  • Our movers will be wearing gloves and face masks

Tip 3: Keep A Safe Distance

Keep a safe distance from yourself and the crew during the move.  We’re not implying that your crew has coronavirus by any means.  However, this is just the best thing to do in general as everyone is practicing social distancing in this predicament.

When speaking to others and the movers, keep over 6 feet distance between yourself and others.  This is not to protect yourself only.  It is also to eliminate means of transmission and protect the public.

Keeping a safe distance will help prevent spread of coronavirus.  And there’s nothing wrong with doing this throughout your move.

Tip 4: Sign Paperwork Electronically

Tip 4 is to sign your paperwork electronically.  Request that of the movers and customer service prior to your move.

Anything you would normally do with physical contacts such as signing papers, shaking hands, and handing the movers money or a credit card should be avoided.  So see if you can eliminate this type of activity.

Tip 5: Don’t Ask Medically Compromised Individuals To Help You Move

Leave out the medically compromised and don’t ask them to help during your move.  This is to protect them and keep them safe.  If you have a family member who is at high risk either by age or a medical condition, do all the heavy lifting for them.  You don’t want them to be overly involved in the moving process and become ill.

While this tip might seem a little callous, we’re sure they will understand and thank you in the long run.  So when finding people to assist with the move, be sure to take into consideration their current state of health.
